How to Burn a Candle Safely
Before Lighting
Always trim the wick to 5mm before each burn.
Remove all packaging and labels not intended to remain on the container.
Ensure the wax surface is free from wick trimmings, matches, and debris.
Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from anything that may catch fire.
Keep candles away from drafts, vents, or air currents to prevent uneven burning and excessive sooting.
Do not burn for more than 1-2 hours at a time. Allow the candle to cool for at least 2 hours before relighting.
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
While Burning
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Never burn on or near flammable materials including curtains, bedding, paper, books, furniture, decorations or clothing.
Keep burning candles at least 10cm apart.
Do not move or touch the candle while burning or while the wax is liquid.
Stop use when 10–15mm (approximately 1cm) of wax remains at the bottom of the container.
If the flame becomes too large, flickers excessively, or produces smoke, extinguish immediately. Allow to cool, trim the wick, and check for drafts before relighting.
Do not use candles as a night light or while sleeping.
When Extinguishing
Use a candle snuffer where possible.
Do not use water to extinguish a candle.
Ensure the flame is fully extinguished and the wick ember is no longer glowing before leaving the room.
Allow the candle to cool completely before handling.
Do not use sharp objects to remove wax from the container.
